No Need to Compromise the Bible
By Roland Banks
Many Christians feel the need to compromise the Bible because of so called “science” regarding the old age of the earth. They hear about rocks being dated by radiometric dating methods in the range of millions and billions of years. But there is no need to do this for the following reasons:
The dating of the earth by radiometric dating is not real science. Real science must be observable, testable, repeatable, and falsifiable. No one was around millions of years ago to observe these rocks being deposited. But it is interesting that when we do know the age of a rock, say as deposited by the Mount St. Helen’s volcanic eruption, the age dating of the rock is no where close to its actually age. Why is this? Because of the many assumptions that must be made in the dating process.
For instance, in the uranium-lead dating methods, no one knows the number of original unstable uranium atoms or the rate of change from uranium atoms to lead atoms, or if all the lead atoms were produced by radioactive decay. Scientists must make assumptions regarding these values which obviously leads to gross errors.
